Just as a physical exam gives your doctor a chance to check your overall health, regular inspections allow a skilled and trained professional the opportunity to assess the condition of your car, minivan, pick-up or SUV. That’s why Jiffy Lube recommends that you bring your vehicle in for a checkup at regular intervals.
YOU’LL FEEL BETTER AFTER THE CHECKUP, TOO
After your vehicle has been inspected by an expert and you’re reassured it’s in the best-possible condition, you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing you and your passengers are traveling safer and more dependably.
BUT WHAT IF YOU DON’T HAVE MUCH BUDGE IN YOUR BUDGET?
We get it: you may not feel like spending money on your vehicle now, especially if everything seems to be running “well enough.” What’s more? You have plenty of other demands on your time and there are lots of things you’d rather do than take your vehicle to the shop. Completely understandable!
But here’s another way to look at it: Routine general maintenance puts you in greater control of both your time and your money.
- Breakdowns often happen at the worst times, but you may be able to avoid them by scheduling a car inspection at your convenience.
- Preventive measures are often less expensive, and can take less time, than major repairs.
- Regular maintenance may keep your vehicle in compliance with its warranty (where applicable).
- When it’s operating properly, your vehicle is likely more fuel efficient, which is good for your wallet.
- A healthy vehicle may bring you more at trade in.
POP THE HOOD AND SAY “AH …”
The procedures outlined below are customary and appropriate for most vehicles. But you should always consult your vehicle owner’s manual for the specific recommendations for your make and model. If you can’t find your owner’s manual, don’t worry – Jiffy Lube® technicians can access your vehicle’s inspection schedule and recommended procedures.
CHECKUP CHECKLIST
Here’s what you can typically expect when your vehicle goes in for a checkup. This vehicle inspection checklist is not exhaustive and can change depending on the season and the needs of your specific vehicle.
- Battery - Terminals cleaned and tightened with the water level, hold down, and cables inspected.
- Belts and hoses - Inspected for fraying, splitting, glazing, wear or other signs of damage.
- Brakes - An experienced Jiffy Lube technician will visually inspect the brake system, and manually measure the brake pads/shoes for thickness. Your brake fluid will be physically tested.
- Drivetrain system - CV (Constant Velocity) axles, U-joints, and drive shafts will be checked for corrosion, misalignment, wear, or other malfunctions.
- Engine diagnostics - If your “Check Engine” light is on, it may mean something is wrong under the hood. Even if your vehicle seems to be running normally, it’s important to get to the source of the problem. A trained Jiffy Lube technician will use a diagnostic tool to isolate the issue.
- Filters - Cabin air filters, engine air filters, fuel filters, and transmission filters are visually inspected (if possible).
- Fluids - It’s well-known that here at Jiffy Lube, we know oil. But you can also rely on Jiffy Lube to properly inspect the level of your transmission, power steering, differential/transfer case and washer fluids.
- Lighting - Exterior lights will be checked for proper operation.
- Tires - The Jiffy Lube technician will visually inspect your tires, check and adjust their pressure, and will measure their tread depth.
- Windshield wipers - Wipers will be inspected for signs of wear or damage.
IF IT’S GOT TO BE DONE, MAKE SURE IT’S DONE RIGHT
After your vehicle’s overall health is assessed, you can expect your Jiffy Lube technician to explain any problems and present you with a written estimate for proposed work. Whether it’s something as small as wiper blades or as big as a battery replacement, be sure every service is performed carefully and professionally by somebody with the proper training and knowledge. That includes being able to choose the right products and parts. At Jiffy Lube we use quality Pennzoil® products whenever possible and consistently install parts which meet or exceed Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations.
IF YOU NOTICE SOMETHING, DO SOMETHING!
If you suddenly came down with a fever, you wouldn’t wait months until your next regularly scheduled checkup, would you? You’d call your doctor right away! You should be just as health savvy with your vehicle.
- Just as you should never skip a scheduled vehicle maintenance appointment, you also shouldn’t hesitate to have your vehicle looked at between appointments.
- If you notice vibrations, hear strange noises, or discover a fluid spot on your parking space, don’t hesitate to contact us.
- Acting early may mean the difference between a quick repair and a long, expensive stay at the shop.
- Even more important than possibly saving time and money, you’ll be protecting your own comfort and safety.
